Testing, testing…
Blood tests can be a super helpful way to identify what’s going on in your body. I get a wide spectrum of blood tests done each year as part of my annual physical. However, I wanted to test for a few things that were not covered during my annual check up. I have been moving around a ton during the past few months (now settled in Miami, Florida), so I decided to try out EverlyWell. My primary healthcare provider at the time was located in NYC, and I was living at my parent’s house in Columbia, SC without a definite departure date. Getting a testing kit was a great option for my highly-mobile lifestyle at the time.
Purchasing the Everlywell tests was part of an overall evaluation of my diet and nutrition strategy. I want to know what’s going on in body so I can create the best plan for optimizing my health. Everlywell testing kits include easy-to-understand instructions supplemented by videos on their website. The kits themselves contain everything you need, down to the gauze and bandaid for your finger post-prick.

I tried the Metabolism Test Kit in June and was happy with the ease of the experience. You can track the process via their website, which shows when your samples are in transit and when they are being processed by the lab. Like the testing you’d receive in the doctor’s office, Everlywell’s testing process is bound by HIPAA, which they state on their website. This made me feel a bit safer, as it felt a bit weird to send my blood and saliva off in the mail.
I am now about to try the “deluxe” version of the food allergy test, which covers over 200 different types of foods. Everlywell testing does not require insurance, but can be submitted for FSA/HSA reimbursement. Their blog does warn, however, that sometimes reimbursement is not covered, so make sure to check with your insurance provider.
Results
Thank goodness, my metabolic function is healthy! This is helpful to know as I move forward with my overall wellness plan. Next up: food allergy testing. I suspect that I have either a dairy or gluten sensitivity, but it will be helpful to know for sure. I’m so excited to have hard data to help me plan 🙂
