This Powerful Berkey Filter Will Protect You From Microplastics

Below, I explain how my quest for *glowing skin* (and overall good health, of course lol) led me to learn some not-so-fun things about tap water. The bad news: much of our drinking water is contaminated with microplastics and “forever chemicals”. One of my favorite beauty tips is one you’ve likely heard before: drink more water. I recently decided to revisit drinking one gallon per day to to boost my inner and outer glow factor. I noticed that despite the warm temperatures here in Miami, I was lucky to get down a liter per day on average.

Microplastics and PFAS

Part of this was because I felt iffy about the tap water situation here. My refrigerator has a filter built into the water dispenser, but I knew that it wasn’t capturing much. The final straw was a text from my sister with an article showing that Miami ranked third in the nation for “forever chemicals” present in the water system. Although Miami is ranked especially high, it is estimated that nearly all Americans are exposed to water contaminated with “forever chemicals”, which have been linked to cancer and birth defects. These chemicals, called perflouorochemicals or PFAS, have also been linked to severe COVID-19 cases.

If this wasn’t enough, Miami water is also fairly high in microplastics, those tiny bits of plastic that fall off of our synthetic clothing in the wash. Microplastics have been liked to hormone disruption and more, with some estimates stating that we swallow approximately one credit card worth of microplastics per week (ew).

I started doing research on Berkey water filters around a year ago after seeing random reports about things like birth control in tap water.
