Juice Your Way to Good Health in 2021

There are few things more revitalizing than a fresh juice. The fresh-bottled ones are good in a pinch, but there’s nothing quite like that delicious nectar straight from the juicer, still packed with vitamins. Juicing at home is a great way to enjoy the health-boosting qualities of fresh juice on a regular basis.

Why Juicing?

I recently purchased a Crux Kitchen juicer here in Miami to fill the gap while I am away from my go-to juicer. I posted a review on it to IGTV. Click below for more:

I remember being so excited as a kid when my mom was juicing. I would hang around the kitchen waiting for my small glass of juice, the brightly-colored liquid shining like a jewel. My mom had one of the old-school Jack La Lanne juicers. I still remember how she taught us how to clean the parts. You had to rinse everything immediately to keep the bits of plant fibers from sticking to the component like concrete.

Buying my own juicer during law school felt like a true coming-of-age moment. Setting up my entry-level Breville on the kitchen counter in my apartment felt like I was finally establishing my own household. Ancient societies gathered around the hearth. The focal point of my abode was the juicer.

Health Benefits

Like many others, I have found regular juicing to have an incredibly positive impact on my health. After spending a summer at home juicing carrots almost each day, my eye doctor told me that my vision had improved during my annual vision test, despite the fact that I’d just finished two years of law school. I mentioned that I had been religiously drinking carrot juice, and he said that it had probably contributed to my improved eye health.

(If you are considering embarking on a juicing regimen for health reasons, it is of course advisable to consult with your doctor.)

La Vie de Zee Juice Recipes

Over the years, I keep returning to a few trusty recipes, which I share below. I usually don’t juice with fruit, as I have read that removing the fiber can result in a blood sugar spike. The carrot/beet juice is a bit higher in sugar than it’s celery-based counterpart, but still lower than apple or orange juice.

The Green Goddess Juice

Despite the hype around cold-pressed juicers, I have yet to find compelling evidence showing that the juice is significantly better than that produced by centrifugal juicers. I am looking forward to trying a cold-pressed juicer one day soon. Until then, a centrifugal juicer is serving my needs quite well.

My original Breville juicer is still producing great juice, all these years later. If you would like to purchase one for yourself, check out the link below:

  1. I’ve been juicing for many years and while I’m happy with my “Oldie but Goodie” Lol. An upgrade might be a good idea right now. Thanks for tips! Especially using plastic bags to make cleanup easier. That is a game changer for me. Love juicing not the cleanup!

  2. I never juice in the winter season; However, after reading your article, I miss them 🤗 .. I include blueberries & bananas I most of mine …. Delicious 😋 … Thank You 🙏🏽 ..
