If you are like me, you know of quite a few people that are pregnant or have recently given birth. Like many predicted, all those days inside with nothing to do has led to quite the baby boom. Navigating the birthing process during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has presented a host of challenges for expectant parents. I sat down with my friend Amanda Gloria Valdes to discuss her work as a doula during COVID.
“Doula” is derived from a Greek word meaning “woman’s servant.” Although the birth doula is the most commonly-known type of doula, there are also other types of doulas such as geriatric doulas and death doulas.

We also spoke on the challenges faced by expectant parents of color as well as wellness resources available to expectant parents during quarantine.
