After experimenting with dozens of natural deodorants, I am happy to announce that I have found my favorite natural deodorant! Perhaps even my favorite natural beauty product of 2020.

I came upon it by chance after visiting Onda Beauty in Tribeca. I was looking for a natural facial cleanser, but a saleswoman introduced me to an innovative deodorant recently released by Kosas. The word “sport” on the packaging was encouraging. I typically need more “umph” from my natural deodorants, so I was excited to give it a try.

At approx. $16, it is priced above your average drugstore deodorant. I decided to make the investment because it was worth it to me to avoid the toxic chemicals found in traditional antiperspirants. Admittedly, I had fallen back into using an antiperspirant deodorant containing aluminum over the past few months. I knew I needed to get back onto the clean deo wagon. I just needed to find something that worked for me.

Stopping Odor at the Source

That’s where Kosasport AHA Serum Deodorant came in. The AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acids. The acids work beneath the skin to kill odor causing bacteria. Unlike most deodorants, Kosasport treats the root cause of underarm odor rather than interfering with perspiration or covering it up with cloying scents. True to the serum branding, the deodorant comes out a milky, almost clear gel-like consistency. It is applied using a roller ball. The serum dissolves easily into the skin, so no annoying white marks on skin or clothing to contend with.

This was my first time using a Kosas product. I am in Miami, and the climate has provided a true test of the deodorant’s effectiveness. I was odor-free for over a day. Perhaps I could have gone longer, but I ended up taking a shower.

Choosing a deodorant can be a tricky process. It goes beyond personal self-care. We want our scent to be a pleasant indicator of our presence. It feels great to go about my day smelling fresh and not having to compromise my health in the process.

I purchased the “Serene Clean” scent (pictured). It also comes in an unscented version. Given the price point, I am wondering a bit about the longevity of the product. I will have to update this review once I have finished the tube. In the interim, I am happy to highly recommend this product.
