How To Use TikTok To Hypnotize Yourself Into Positive Thinking

A Defining Year for TikTok

If you didn’t heard about popular social media app TikTok in 2020 . . . yes you did. Between the catchy dance crazes, information security drama and infamous feud with the Trump Administration, TikTok dominated the headlines for pretty much all of 2020. Most people use TikTok to consume and create viral videos, but I’m here to let you in on a hypnosis hack to reprogram your subconscious mind for success!

TikTok’s sophisticated algorithm learns about its users and delivers curated content to their For You pages. After only a few uses of the app, many report that the videos that pop up on their FYP are eerily similar to their personal lives. It is this customized content and easy “swipe up” navigation that can quickly lead users to find themselves on an hours-long TikTok bender.

Beyond the hyper-viral content, the TikTok app is actually an incredibly powerful video recording and editing tool. Features like VR (virtual reality) and green screen are accessible at the tap of a finger. For our purposes, it is the looping feature that is going to be a powerful ally in reprograming our subconscious mind.

The Subconscious Mind and How to Alter It

The subconscious mind is the part of our consciousness that exists “under” the parts of ourselves that we actively construct and identify with. Depending on how your mind works, you may experience conscious thoughts as a sort of inner dialogue and subconsciousness as thoughts and ideas that reveal themselves without having actively been summoned.

Even when we are not engaging with it, the subconscious has a huge impact on the quality of our life as a whole. Therefore, it is important that examine how our subconscious mind may need to be tweaked to help us achieve our goals.

Our minds are constantly being programmed by stimuli around us whether we are aware of it or not. That’s why being selective with our environment, friend group, entertainment, etc. is so crucial. However, accessing and reprogramming the subconscious mind requires a slightly different tact. Much of the beliefs operating in our subconscious were formed during our childhood, specifically our so-called “formative years.” Beliefs formed during that time are often an attempt to ensure basic survival without taking nuance or context into account.

As we grow and develop the capacity for analytical thought, we use the data we have collected during the course of our lives to form new beliefs and ideas. However, unless directly challenged, these new ideas will not overwrite the existing “code” from our past, but merely layer on top, causing conflicts.

Step 1: Identify Thought Patterns You Would Like to Change

This step can be relatively easy at first, but can get more challenging as you delve deeper into your subconscious. Most of us are aware of at least some negative beliefs about ourselves stemming from our past. Maybe thoughts like “I am not attractive enough” or “I am not smart enough.” These types ideas often come directly from childhood messaging we received either explicitly or implicitly.

Next, identify areas of your life that have not changed, despite your best efforts. Do they match up with the negative beliefs you already identified? If not, there may be additional negative beliefs that are acting as blocks. Journaling and/or working with a licensed professional can help with uncovering these types of belief systems. Sometimes, even asking an honest friend can provide clues to internal beliefs that are holding you back.

Step 2: Prepare Your Script

This is the fun part. Examine your negative beliefs and write yourself a love letter of sorts praising yourself for being the amazing being that you are. In detail, write sentences counteracting those negative beliefs and phrase them in the present tense.

For example:

Limiting BeliefHypnosis Statement
“I am not attractive enough.”“I am incredibly lovely. Glowing brown skin, beautiful eyes, beautiful hair: I am a smoke show.”
“I am not smart enough.”“I am incredibly wise and incredibly knowledgeable. Creative and innovative ideas come to me easily. I am intelligent enough to solve all of the problems that arise in my life.”
“No one cares about me.”“I am blessed to be surrounded by friends and family that care about my wellbeing. I feel loved and valued by my community.”

Step 3: Record Your Hypnosis Video

Are you ready for your close-up? Time to record!

1: Download the TikTok app from the app store.

2: Set up an account. Don’t get too hung up on usernames and such, you can change them later.

3: Press the “+” button in the middle of the screen to record.

4: On the recording screen, change the timer at the bottom of the screen to “60s” to give yourself a full minute. Read your script into the camera with love and care.

5: When you are satisfied, hit the check button and then click the “Next” button.

6: *IMPORTANT* Change the settings on the video to Private, so only you will be able to see the video.

7: Press “Post.” Then, navigate to your locked videos from your profile page (click on the padlock symbol) to be able to see your self-hypnosis video.

Step 4: Watch Your Video!

The final step is to just leave the video playing in the background as you go about your life. You can even leave it on while taking a nap, allowing your conscious mind to take a backseat. Thanks to TikTok’s auto loop, you’ll hear your affirmations on repeat. Because the message is coming from you in your voice, it will have a much stronger impact upon your subconscious. By listening to your recording, you are providing your subconscious with different programming to undo and replace those old subconscious beliefs. It is a more efficient version of the popular practice of saying your affirmations to yourself in a mirror each day.

I did this for ONE DAY and I’ve already noticed that I feel markedly more positive about myself. If you try this self-hypnosis technique out yourself, I would love to hear from you in the comments. Happy recording!
