Our Miami Fitness Discovery Tool allows you to curate the Miami fitness landscape at a glance to suit your needs. “BE” is short for “bien-être,” which means wellbeing in French. It is both a play on the Francophile roots of La Vie de Zee as well as a gentle reminder to prioritize your holistic health.
Introduction
The Miami wellness scene has been world-renowned for decades—and why shouldn’t it be? Between year-round sunshine, plentiful water activities and more fitness studios than you can shake a palm frond at, the city is having a well-deserved moment as a global health and fitness destination. Since the early 1900s, South Florida has attracted well-heeled Northeasterners looking for a bit of rest and relaxation against a lush, tropical backdrop—especially during the snowier months. Now, many call Miami home year-round and the local wellness industry is booming accordingly.
The Miami fitness scene is truly one-of-a-kind: defined by a mix of enhanced rigor, pulsing music and cutting-edge fashion. Whether you’re a long-time resident, born-and-bred Miamian or flying in for a visit, this curated guide will help you find your favorite workout spots with ease and efficiency.

Miami Fitness: Frequently Asked Questions
While the Miami fitness landscape is not a monolith, there are certain common themes that are helpful to know before making your first booking or committing to a studio. Below, we answer a few frequently-asked questions:
Q: Do I need to bring grip socks to Pilates or barre classes?
For most studios, the answer is YES. The primary exception is Mat Pilates, which is typically performed barefoot like yoga. Some smaller independent studios may allow you to take class without socks. Private sessions where the machines are cleaned between clients are also more likely to be lenient. But in general: bring your own grip socks or be prepared to purchase a pair at the front desk.
Q: Are the classes harder?
Anecdotally, the group fitness classes in Miami are much harder than the classes you would find in other markets, even within the same studio franchise. Miami fitness is notoriously tough, as the clientele is demanding and competition is fierce. If you are beginner or just getting back into movement, working with a private trainer or taking beginner-focused classes may be the best way to ease yourself in.
Q: What is the Miami fitness studio vibe like? Laid-back? Friendly?
On a scale from Deep South to New York City, Miami is somewhere in the middle. You likely won’t start chatting with the person on the reformer next to you immediately, but clients also aren’t power-walking out the door the minute class ends. If connection is your goal, finding a studio, class time and instructor you like and showing up a few times consistently is a good way to connect with other regulars. Initiating conversation and offering to purchase an after-class bev is always a great way to show friendly interest.
Q: What are the best Pilates studios in Miami?
Miami has a plethora of great Pilates studios. The answer in terms of “best studios” is a nuanced one—one that depends on your goals and preferred class type. We’ll start by saying that to truly get a full Pilates experience, nothing beats a private class with a well-trained, highly-certified instructor. For group classes, including our favorites below:
-For Cadillac/Tower classes: CadiLab in Coral Gables
-For Classical Pilates: Club Pilates
-For Contemporary, “athletic-style” Pilates classes performed on an Allegro 2 machine: -Pilathon and Reforming Pilates
-For a Classical Reformer/Cadillac/Tower “split”: NoFar Method in Miami Beach
-For Infrared (“Hot”) Classical Mat Pilates: Mimi Yoga & Pilates in Wynwood
-For Unheated Classical Mat Pilates: Long Lean Pilates in Downtown Miami
-For “Pilates-Inspired” classes: Tremble or JetSet Pilates
Q: I’m living/staying in Brickell. What are my options re: luxury gyms?
I’ll start off with a Miami local pro-tip: as convenient as Brickell is, to truly get all of the best amenities under one roof, you’re better off expanding your range to the Anatomy location just outside of Brickell in Coconut Grove or LifeTime Fitness in Coral Gables. However, if you need something nearby, you have great options in the form of Equinox Brickell and Equinox Brickell Heights. For residents, many buildings have their own gyms with amenities that rival local gym offerings (and are included with the price of rent/condo ownership).
Q: Where are the best neighborhoods to work out in Miami?
If we are talking pure density, it’s hard to argue against Sunset Harbor and the Wynwood/Midtown/Edgewater corridor. A high concentration of some of the top studios and gyms, as well as other wellness amenities nearby like cafés for iced coffees, matchas and protein shakes as well as athletic apparel stores like On and Alo.
In terms of outdoor workouts, anywhere near the beach or the bay is a great way to get steps in and see beautiful nature, with the added benefit of a nice, cooling breeze.
Ultimately, the best place to workout in Miami is going to be the place where you show up regularly! Finding a good neighborhood spot that you can get to without battling traffic is a smart first step.
